the suitable way to deal with the waste

Nowadays, watse has been a major problem for our society. Usually there are two ways to deal with the waste. One is landfilling and the other is zero waste. Just like its name, landfilling is a method for final disposal of solid waste on land while for zero waste, nothing is actually disposed. Things we once throwed away can be repaired, reused or recycled. Thus zero waste is more environmentally friendly compared to landfilling.
As far as concerned, the zero waste method is more suitable for China. There are mainly three reasons. Firstly, using zero waste method will save a lt of land. As we know, the amount of houseland rubbish is enormous and still in increasing trend. If everything is dumped into the groud, it will take a lot of space. Therefore zero waste method will somehow help to solve the problem of the shortage of farmland. Secondly, zero waste method can do a favor to reduce the risk of health. The air pollution can be decreased if we apply this method, because the rubbish can be reused and recycled instead of becoming landfills. This is a healthier way for us. Last but not the least, the recycling programme relating to zero waste can provide more job opportunities. It is attractive for people to take part in while doing well to the environment at the same time.
To sum up, the zero waste method is a better disposal scheme for China to adopt.

Climate is one of the most concerns of people since the ancient time. Climate had an important effect on human communication and activities in the past. The forecasting of the climate often depended on religious activities and witchery in ancient society, but as time went on, the forecasting technology has become one of the important sciences. Then how to develop this technology and make the forecasting accurate seems another challenge to human beings. The forecasting has become important because it is not only the prediction of the weather that affects our timetable of activities but also the matter that can save lives. The forecasting of the droughts, floods and other nature disaster can save lots of people. Meteorology is related to physical background and we engineering students just need to have a good knowledge of physics. So engineers can make a contribution to this field as well. A hot issue nowadays is the destroying of the atmosphere caused by greenhouse gas which is mainly carbon dioxide. The greenhouse effect makes the temperature increase and the sea level increase, which threatens our life. How to deal with such problems are also the challenges that faced the engineers although they are more concerned to science, since many technologies and the knowledge that used are grasped by engineers. So engineers also need to care about the issues in other fields as to mostly benefit the humans.

difficulties in studing MLE1101

As one of my core modules, MLE1101 is the most difficulty module for me to study. This module is about material science and needs a high level of chemistry. For me, i do not have chemistry background and it is difficult to change English into Chinese, because there are so many new words with a lot of letters. Mostly the questions are also difficult to comprehend, not to mention how to solve the problem. Actually for me, it related to the English level more or less. It will be easy for me to understand the questions and to express myself exactly if i can improve my English. So i need to put more effort in English studying beside MLE if i want to have a big improvement in this module. Anyway, i need to work hard now since i was busy doing concert the few weeks passed. ahaha

my grammar mistakes

After having a look at my previous essays, the most grammar mistakes i had are on preposition and articles. Some usages of the prepositions have no reason, just need us to remember. Take the usage of the preposition that describe the time for an example, we say at 12 p.m, on Monday, in July, in 1988. We just keep them in mind and do not know how come these rules. Another type of the preposition usage may have some reason. In my memory, my English teacher have told us about how to remember the usage of "in" and "on" to describe the relationship between an apple and a tree. She said that if an apple was still growing and had connection to the tree, then we needed to use"in"; if the apple was already ripe and just before it fell down, then we use "on", for they had no connection point. Sounds interesting but i think it has a point. I still have a lot of mistakes because the quantity of prepositions is so big. When to use "on",when to use "in", when to use "at" and so many others still troubles me a lot. Now let us see practices that make me confused.

1. My best friend lives on Boretz Road.
2. It was clear that this player could both contribute to and learn from every game he played.
3. He's worked here since 1970.

How to choose the accurate articles is the other grammar i often have. First i do not know whether to use the articles or not in an sentence. Secondly it is difficult for me to decide to use "the" or "a(an)" although i know "a(an) refers to less specific manner than "the". The is required when the noun it refers to represents something named earlier in the text or is used with specific nouns. Let's see some examples.

after six weeks studying of EG1471 i have learnt a lot. the obvious one is in academic writing. i have learnt more about citation, know how to use academic words, how to use punctuation accurately and the most important is the knowledge of structure. all of these are to make an essay better. we have a lot of editing practice in class, which can help me modify my own articles later. besides, i have improved my listening more or less. because for me, there are four more hours to stay in English environment. but i have more to learn in next half semester. according to the 0.5 point result in the editing test i have a lot to do in improving my editing skill. and i still want to learn more about academic writing, which is the most weak part of my English.anyway, hope to learn more o(∩_∩)o...

Firstly people are used to the old technologies and do not want to change. For example, the workers in the factory are familiar with the operations of the machines they work on every day. Introductions to new machines seem to be troubles to them as they have to relearn the techniques and practice to control the machines skillfully. It is humans' nature to live in a familiar environment. Many people resist new technologies due to this reason. Secondly, people have been aware of such a fact that the development of new technology costs a large amount of money and increases pollution. Nowadays' developments of technology are built in advanced technology and science level which all need money to support. We may wonder why we need to spend money developing the technology as we have already enough technology power to live a comfortable life. Engineers can understand the importance of technology development but ordinary people may not realize. Furthermore, the pollutions of air, soil, water have been severer than before. Other pollutions such as nuclear pollution can even have bad effects on people for many years. These all come from the development of the technology. For many people, they do not see the advantage of the new technology, so they are more likely to resist it. Besides the two reasons above, people's uncertainty of the new technology also causes their resistance, taking genetically modified food as an example. GM food was born with arguments from different aspects. There are there most common concerns about GM foods among people. They are environmental hazards, human health risks, and economic concerns (Deborah, 2000). It seems that GM food is still a risk. A research in 2005 shows that Americans still do not have a good knowledge of GM foods and animals and their responses suggest that they particularly feel uncomfortable with GM food (Wikipedia, n.d.). We also know the fact from a study in 2003 that quite a small number of Britons are willing 4to eat GM food and more than half of the population oppose the GM foods' being provided to the public (Wikipedia, n.d.). From the example shown above, the last reason is due to people's unfamiliarity of new technology. The reasons of people's resistance are indicated above. Review of the two articles

In my opinion, the article "Introduction to the Grand Challenges for Engineering" is more important to the profession. At the first of the article the author shows us the achievements of the engineering, which almost reaches everywhere of human life. Thus making me pride of being an engineer. Despite of the accomplishment, engineering still faces great challenges. In the article, the author points out some aspects that are needed to be developed and they all related to engineering. The importance of engineering is obvious. As a future engineer, i think it is important to know the challenges await for me. Then i can think about which aspect i am interested in and want to study in. In the article, the author shows out clearly about many aspects of the challenges and the working targets of engineering. The information is important for me to decide which part is suitable for me. As the author said, the curiosity can be a promotion of engineering. So to make a difference in this field we need to own this spirit. After reading the article i have a better knowledge of engineering. Such as what we have done, what we need to do in the future and how we should do. In this article, there are more details than the article of "The expanding world of engineers" and this article is focus on the challenges that we are facing. I have known more from this article and in my view it is more important for the profession.
